This is Eldinhope Farmhouse – formerly Altrieve - home of James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd
This is an EYCDC project still in its early days, but it is one that has the potential to be very exciting.
Eldinhope Farmhouse, formerly known as Altrieve, was the home of James Hogg – the “Ettrick Shepherd”. Hogg is probably the most famous son of the valleys and it was at Altrieve that he wrote his masterpiece, “Confessions of a Justified Sinner”, as well as a host of his popular poems.
The building has been unoccupied for many years but EYCDC is exploring the possibility of developing the farmhouse, in conjunction with Buccleuch Estates who own it, as a writers’ centre.
